Politics and anime crash together to create a memorable Spy x Family cosplay with the Forger family of three Taiwanese political figures.
It’s quite fitting since the Forgers are a rather unconventional family, it’s not surprising that nobody would expect to see Spy x Family cosplayers to be political.
Reddit reveals that three Spy and Family cosplayers, Anya, and Yor made the rounds on TikTok for their portrayals of Loid as well as Taiwanese political figures. The post states that the person who co-plays Loid is Tseng Wen-huh. The Yor cosplayer is Lai Pin-yu and Huang Jie plays Anya. In the image, each character has their respective ‘weapon’ of preference for example the Lord cosplayer is holding a newspaper as the character is a spy that gathers information, the Yor cosplayer is holding gold needles, and the cosplayer for Anya is holding magnifying glasses. Tseng & Lai, the couple from real life behind Loid & Yor are not appear in anime as a fake wedding.

Tseng is Miaoli County Councilor and has been instrumental in exposing corruption. In 2020, he turned into an independent politician, leaving the New Power Party, after leaks revealed that former chairman Huang Guo-chang had criticized Tseng’s skills and argued that he would not be capable of winning the party alone. Tseng declared that he would not stay in the NPP because the values of the party had changed dramatically.
Lai is a part of the Democratic Progressive Party and is known for supporting the cosplay and anime industries. In 2014, police detained Lai for protesting during the Sunflower Student Movement, which opposed the trade agreement between the People’s Republic of China and Taiwan, as many believed that it could create Taiwan more susceptible to Chinese influence. In addition to Yor, Lai has cosplayed Neon Genesis Evangelion‘s Asuka Langley Soryu as well as Sailor Mars from Sailor Moon.

Huang, like Tseng, was also a member of the NPP. She is currently the Kaohsiung City Councillor. She became famous for rolling her eyes in a viral video when Han Kuo Yu, Kaohsiung’s Mayor, Kaohsiung could not provide much detail on his plan to establish a free economic zone in Kaohsiung. During Hong Kong’s Umbrella Movement in 2014, she donated resources, including safety equipment for protesters.

Produced by Wit Studio and CloverWorks, Spy x Family takes place in the backdrop of the tense peace agreement between Westalis and Ostania. In Operation Strix – a mission to prevent war – super-spy Twilight is disguised as Loid Forger she marries Yor and adopts 4-year-old Anya. Loid Forger and Yor both have ulterior motives behind their decision to accept the lies, however, they have grown to love their “fake family”.
